Default Huge crappie at Bass Pro

Does anyone know how big the crappie is at the Bass Pro shop in Charlotte NC? Looks like this fish is 20" long. Seems it's as long as some bass in the tank. I've seen some close to 3lbs. and this one looks a lot bigger.

I don't doubt the fish is big, but the glass on the tank is pretty thick and has a magnifying effect. It's not as big as you might think.

I am pretty sure that the fish is over 4 lbs. My daughters love to go and watch the feedings. I cannot remember the exact weight but I am positive it is over 4lbs.

At the Bass Pro in Springfield Missouri, they got one mounted that was caught in a farm pond in Missouri that weighted 5' 0". I don't know how long it was though.

I mounted a black crappie 10 years ago that was just barley less than 21 inches. It weighed exactly 4.00 pounds. It was caught in a small impoundment in late summer and was so skinny there were zero options for a factory form for it. I had to carve a custom form.

At that time the world record black crappie was around 5 1/2 pounds but was only 19.5 inches long if my memory serves me correctly. A biologist looked at the 4 pounder and said it probably would have already eaten itself to death if it had been in either KY or Barkley lakes. Could it have been a world record if caught pre-spawn on one of the big lakes? Possibly but we can only speculate.

I know the glass can have a magnifying effect, but that fish is huge. I think shane1980 is right when he say it's over 4 lbs. It's way bigger than any I have ever seen.

If its a good sized fish ask at bass pro store. I was once told at one by me that they keep records on tank conditions temp, ph etc and that they knew how long they have had the fish. Its possible they could have a weight on it.

Just drop a jig in and then weigh it yourself. They probably wouldn't mind.
