Nothing like having a fly rod to catch a mess of bream.

I got a few pond bluegill last Sunday evening over at a nearby residential community fishing from the bank with the 5wt. and a floating line. Most were only average size. I was just getting ready to take a photo of the first bluegill I caught on a #8 Aberdeen yellow Nymphomie Pusher foam fly Dremel bug but the gill got off the hook before I could take the photo. I did get a photo of the last gill I caught toward dark. An average size of about 7 or 8 inches I caught on a #10 Improved Black Gnat wet fly. The little rascal took the fly deep enough I had to use the foreceps (hemostat).

but that looks to me more like a coppernose than a bluegill.
I know it is a hybird off of a bluegill and they do get pretty good size. I had a buddy that had them stocked in a pond I use to fish.
Either way, NICE FISH!:D

Good eyes, Dwyane :D. Yep, copperheaded variety but a small young one. I've caught some up to about 11 or 12 inches on other waters. There are some different kinds of bluegill in that pond .Originally Posted by shadow

My sis in law has a pond and the gills that come out of there are killers year round. bigger than I catch on the lake. Very few people fish in her pond so I guess they have time to grow.

The wind was really bad this evening on the pond. Line tangles galore and I said some things I shouldn't have when I got frustrated. I was going to go over to the little lake to hook into some small LMB but there was a wedding going on as it is a popular place for weddings with the gazebo on the little island with the footbridge.

That is a beautiful pond, and a nice perch I might add!

Perch? Thats not a perch. This is a perch.:DOriginally Posted by Bridges
Since we don't have "real perch" like that in most parts of the south, chaunc, I think its just slang . Its a southern thing but I know what bridges meant. If I called them "smackers" or "fry hards", you might not know what I'm talking about either :D.
