Default New guy's Crappie fishing *pics*

I was asked in my intro post where are the crappie.
Since I'm new, I guess I can start out with Spring 2006 a few weeks after ice out on the lake.
1st crappie of the open water 2006 season, April 14th.

April 25th I got a nice one in the river on my favorite color.

Then then we got into May the spawn and the shallow bit was on.
May 8th, I go out and locate them.

Nice dark color to them, the next day May 9th, since I found them, I took my 5 year old son out for some slabs and huge gills, what a great time and memories.

    3 mins. later

    5 mins. later

    Then 6 more mins.

Man-O-Man, what a great afternoon on the water, love when I get the chance to get my son out on the boat to do some quality fishing.
I do harvest a few in the spring for my awesome cajun crappie sandwich.

I mostly C&R but then is nothing wrong with a few thru the year for the frying pan, hehe.
I really got into fishing for them then I started finding them in the river. Stay tuned, those are other stories. Got to get my son on the bus and yuck, paint the bathroom this morning.
    I'd rather be fishing!

thanks bugman, yes he loves to get out in the boat or on the ice with dad and fish. :D you ask and I deliver, crappie fishing pictures.
In NY the state reg. is legal keeper size is 8" and if you get ones over the 12" mark your getting some nice ones. I've seen them up into the 15"-17" range around here but, I personally haven't gotten any over the 14"-15" mark for me. Still is a fine fighting crappie at 12" or bigger.

I haven't been on the board in a couple days, come back and wow!

Love the pictures, great to have you. Your son looks like he is quite the little fisherman. Isn't it great when they get excited over something besides a toy that runs on batteries or hitting the next level of the video game?

Gotta love em, they sure make it all fun

Here the 3 crappies from the bottom picture above, like a said, "nothing wrong with a cajun crappie sandwich, every once in a while."

That is an open face sandwich at that.

With something that has bite, too.
A great day on the water with an awesome lunch to come home to. Just me and Fish On! :D

    Default Neat fish pictures!!

Those are some great fish pictures. Those gills would be braggers in this neck of the woods . I got both of my grandsons Fish Cat float tubes when they were that size and they love it the few times we find gills that large . Thank for taking the time to post. These pictures have got my old chilled bones rearing to get on the ice .lol Mike
