    Smile the ice is on.

well there's enough ice on our lakes here in minnesota to get out with the fish houses, portables anyway. got out the other day, seen 3 only got 1. they are pretty spoked yet for there's no snow on the ice. the 2 i didn't get were in the 10lb range, but the one i got was 3lbs and tasted real good.

going to try again today if the wind goes down, it's 4 degrees right now with a wind chill of -20 degrees, so im going to see by noon if the wind goes down like they say it's suppose to.

depending on how deep the lake is, there is from 4 to 6 inches now. it's been adding about an inch a night for as cold as it's been.

Man that's got my heart pumping. Get out the shanties and augers. I drove around this morning and saw some crust but that was all.

    Default ice on

Woke up this morning to a fresh coat of ice on the lake. This is the first full freeze up of the season but the weather looks promising. We should not be seeing anything higher than the 20's for the next week or so. I figure to be on the ice within the next week or so on some of the smaller waters. The lake where I live is actually an impoundment so the ice can really be hit or miss until late in the year. Last year we only had about two weeks of good ice on the impoundment where other true lakes had the typical 3 1/2-4 months of good ice. Hopefully I will have a good first ice report within the next couple weeks. All you ice fishers be safe and good luck.

that is awesome, I can't wait to get on the ice myself, but now I have to paint the bathroom. But, when the ice gets here within 2 weeks or so, I'll be ready to play again. :D
