    Default State Records for Crappie?

Here is Toledo Bend and Texas State records info. Got to thinking what are other state records for crappie so tell me your state records.

Here on Toledo Bend the records are 2.88 for white crappie and 3.69 for black crappie.

State Records White is 4.56 pounds and Black is 3.92 pounds.

They say on the Texas Parks & Wildlife web site states the following:

Black crappie predominate in the acidic waters of east and northeast Texas. Black crappie over 3.5 pounds and almost 4.5 pounds have been captured from Texas public waters and private waters, respectively.

Taken together, "crappie" (white and black combined) is the most popular panfish in Texas. The crappie group is the third most preferred group overall, ranking behind only "bass" and "catfish." Crappie are sought after by both bank and boat anglers. Typically, minnows are the preferred bait, often producing monumental results when an aggregation is located, usually around submerged trees, boat docks, or other submerged structures. White crappie in excess of 4.5 pounds have been landed in Texas waters.

I would bet the biggest fish caught have never been weighed for the record books.

Come on tell me yours please!

I think that has to be my favorite crappie picture ever. Perfect hold she has on that fish to show its size. I think its her hand below the fish that makes it look so huge besides I think she could shove her fist into its mouth down past her wrist.

There was recently an interesting article in InFisherman about how giant crappie arnt just from the south. Several northern states have equally large state records. I know of several stories from Chautauqua that for the most part I tend to not believe, but since I personally have caught 1 fish that was 19 inches (I was 11-never weighed it-ate it-still my largest by a couple inches) I'm forced to consider that some of the stories are true of dead crappies washing up on shore that were between 20-23 inches. I have no idea how much a crappie that long would weigh, but I'm willing to find out by catching one. :D

White and black crappie records for NY are 3lb 13oz and 3lb 12oz. Pretty sure that 19 incher was at least that big, and I know I've seen both fish in sizes larger than those records though not caught by me. Back in the heydays for crappies in Chautauqua I'm sure several over 4 lbs were caught mainly by good old boys who took em home and fed thier families with them. This lake was a crappie growing machine before the DEC pushed the muskie and walleye populations so hard. I'd trade all those walleyes and muskies for the crappie population we had 10 - 30 yrs ago.
Good things come to those who bait.

I caught two four pounders on the same once here in ok, best fishing day i ever had for crappie. I had them in the deep freeze to be mounted and my dad decided we didnt have enough for a fish fry so he cleaned them i have regreted it ever sense. And yes there mouths were big enough to put a beer can in them with room to spare. We caught around a hundred that day. Best fish since is a 2.5 pounder.
