Thumbs up Planer boardin for crappie

I tried this today and it worked! I kept the boards out away from the boat so they would go over brush piles and kept the tm setting on medium speed and presto we had fish!
I used a black/green curl tail on a 2' leader with a 1 oz egg sinker above the leader and fished 18' deep.
Anyone else ever try this? I always enjoy trying somthing new and it actualy works! I am realy looking forward to trying this method when the fish start moving out to there pre-spawn locations in February.

Here is a picture of one similar to what I use. I use 12 pound silver thread on the main line and a 2'-3' 6 lb silver thread leader.
What you do is let out the desired depth then attatch it to your line ( like a slip flat almost! ) and let it out! Once you flip the bail they will fly out to the side! You can keep them close to the boat or let them go up to 100' or more out! Name: 554-200-00.jpg

Iv used planner boards for years trolling for walleye and salmon in Wi. now I use them to troll crank baits in the summer for Crappi and any thing else that bites. I use the Off Shore brand with a tattle tale kit that shows the lite bites or if you have a small fish on. The fish I catch trolling seem to average larger than jigs or minnows. I'v also caught catfish up to 15# trolling. The Lures I mostly use are #4 or #5 shad raps I keep changing colors till I find what they like then I put a few of the same color out. I also use Bandits. The other thing I use is snap weights to get the lures down to a specific depth. This is a lazy man's way and I just cant wait for summer to get those funny looks from the green carp fisherman.
