Default Good day at the new lake

We needed a stress free, easy going, no worries kind of day so we headed for the new lake just south of Huntingdon. This is just the second year this 1000 acre lake has been open and it was our first trip. It was nice and calm with just a light breeze and only 3 or 4 other boats on the lake. Paul caught the first fish - a pretty little bream.

There was just enough breeze blowing to keep it comfortable. The birds and frogs and a rooster provided the soundtrack for the day. It really is a pretty lake.

We headed for the other end, which is all a no-wake area so the lake lice don't mess with your fishing. We found a good spot and started catching crappie like crazy. I was catching on all 4 rods two at a time. Of course, they were all about 9 inches, but what a blast! Every fish we caught looked healthy and the colors were really vibrant. I was out catching Paul 3 to 1 til he figured out he had put me right in the middle of them and himself just on the edge.

That is a good looking lake. Sounds like a healthy population of fish has already established. Better keep after the crappie so they don't over populate. Wish I had access to a lake like that here, be good to fish in a kayak if I ever get one.

I love this lake. It is just down the road from us. Brenda and I are probably going "cruising" there tomorrow since we brought the pontoon home. Fish ain't big enough yet, but I like the location. You see the redneck island gadgets?

Did you all try the map I made of the lake on the Garmin 276?

Saw the gadgets and forgot all about the map. I really enjoyed the lake. Paul was getting a headache and needed do to eat so we got off the lake just about the time it started to get crowded with play boats.

The lake will be a good fishery. Lots of cover. I drove around the dry bed on my 4 wheeler before the dam was made. Mr Tuckers family farm is part of the bottom of the lake.

Sounds like the place for me to go and learn trolling. I have been trying for a month out of cuba landing and have had no luck. I think I am set up right but need to catch some fish to know for sure. Were you trolling crankbaits?
