I used that same motor on my 1860 metal boat. It worked OK unless it was rough. I would advise you to use a parallel 2 battery set-up for battery life.

If your trolling crankbaits for hours straight, I'd definitely get a 24V system. I have the 80lb 24V Ipilot on my 2072 Sea Ark. I've trolled for 5-6 hours in wind without the batteries dying. When I finished for the day, the trolling motor was still showing 2 out of 4 lights for battery life.

Being a glass boat and you like to pull cranks, I would lean towards the 80#'r, do you have room for two batteries? Pulling cranks at a higher mph and a glass boat ( heavier), a 12v 55#'r may not last very long unless you go with the wind a lot.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.theygotaeat LIKED above post
Minn Kota has a calculator on there web site. Enter your boat and other specifics and then tells you what they recommend. I have a 21 foot skeeter with 24v 80# thrust. I haven't ran out of battery, normally only pull for 6-8hrs.

Here's the deal, you aint gonna get hurt. Set it up with 2 batts in parallel and give it a whirl, if it don't do the job then sell it for what you paid for it and get an 80, you will just have to change a wire in the batts and be ready to go. I bet it will be all you need.

You don't happen to know where another deal like that is?
I didn't mention in my post that I ended up going to a Terrova 80 on my 1860 Horizon. Did I NEED it? Not really, but I really wanted one!

I use one on my 17 WarEagle with 2 group 27's. Can pull about 5 hrs if not real windy. Like Rees said 2 batteries and group 31's if you can store them and it should be all you need for that boat. By the way that's a heck of a deal.
THANKS GUYS!
I have a MK 50# hand control bow mount 12v and i run 2 batteries (no problems with power or duration) when they are dead so am I
The ipilot is about a year old with 6-8 fishing trips on it and i wanted to be sure it was worth the asking price. CRAPPIE.COM comes through again with great insight
