"Speed Drifting" paying off again!
For whatever reason, the weather here has been very windy, with daily thunderstorms and hail in the afternoons. This limits our fishing activities on some of the larger reservoirs and lakes up here. So, yesterday, Walt & I hit one of our favorite crappie spots again, as previously posted. The wind was strong enough to cause occasional white caps throughout the morning. Air temp. was 92 with evening temps in the mid-60's and very humid.
Again, we applied our "speed drifting" technique I reported on. Again, it payed off for us, although not as prolifically as our last 3 outings. On the water by 7:30 am and off at 2 pm as usual. We caught and released between 50 and 60 crappie. Also got about a dozen or so bluegill and ONE yellow perch! Good day (fish-wise) to be on the water, but we had to bathe ourselves in wind/sunscreen protection. Here are a few of the fish we caught yesterday. No giants, but steady fun action!
And here's the yellow:
Interesting that a yellow perch would be this high in water column in mid-summer! Here's some of my partner's catches:
Like I said, a very productive venture on a hot summer day. And the day was simply beautiful:
This is turning out to be a fine fishing season. Hopefully the wind will die down somewhat by tomorrow. We are targeting smallmouth bass on Friday, unless the high winds persist; then we always have the "crappie alternative"!
