Lots of posts on it. If you do a search you can read for days. Zig zagging over the dropoffs might get you a mixed bag of both.
I have ben pulling small cranks for saugeye and crappie here in s ohio for many years Started out going after saugeye which are usually found on drop-offs and humps. Found out when I make my turns, I would pick crappie on the flats or adj. deeper water. I use a 75 hp engine, run about 2.1 mph. Saw a great article about trolling deeper water during summer. Sound like a good summer project.

Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Some days you'll need to be slower, maybe 1.5mph on up, so might think about a way(s) to slow down a bit as conditions warrant. Some use a drift sock(s) or buckets in place of drift socks.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
I recently put a Cabelas " troll and go " plate on my 150 hp Merc. and I can slow down to 1.3mph....so far its done everything it's supposed to do....very heavy duty but a little pricey..you might check it out.
