    Default Jig Tying Thread

I need help on selecting the right thread for tying jigs. I would use it for tying the feather jigs and hair jigs.

I use a cotton-polyester thread blend from Wal-Mart as well. It works perfectly fine.

I just use as close to the body color as I can. I don't use the Walmart stuff though I like Flat, Waxed Nylon 210 Denier. It doesn't break easy and ties very well and is not that costly at $1.39 for 100 yards. If I couldn't afford the thread I wouldn't be tying jigs. It's cheap no matter unless you buy some off the wall stuff.

I also use this Uni in a 3/0, but it's not as strong as the other.

It's not the only thread I use, but I like it the best.

    skiptomylu,

I used that thread for awhile, but I didn't like the volume that it gave the body. It seemed to take a thousand wraps to build up any kind of body (maybe we have different jig-tying styles?).

It also seemed to "separate" really easy when I was tying.

I have to say though, more people seem to prefer your thread over mine - so maybe I'm just weird.

I think it works fine, but it will take some wraps. If it were any bigger though then the chenille body jigs the thread would show too much for me. I like the thread hidden as much as I can on them.

Some people use Kevlar thread for hair jigs (and flies), but it will tend to cut deer hair some.
