View Full Version : Standing and looking

I wonder how many of us have just taken the time to go and stand at the water and look. There is something peaceful about the water. This painting reminds me of the many times I have left my fishing rods at home and just stood and looked at the beauty of nature.

Do others have similar photos or paintings? If so please post them.

I know what you mean Ship, I too enjoy just being around the water and looking at God's great creation. It's just relaxing.

I agree. Fishing and being on the water can have a spiritual aspect. I love getting on the water just before sunrise...when the mist is rising, all is quiet, and there is nobody else around. The sights, the smells, and the sounds of God's perfection.....At times like that, I sometimes just drift around drinking my coffee to appreciate the moment. It puts things into perspective. Catching fish is just icing on that cake.

Days when I go fishing and I am having a hard time of it. (Not catching anything) I just troll around looking at what GOD has given us. To much of our lives are spent going to fast, to upset, what ever we do in our daily lives. Its then that I feel so small but big at the same time. I do pray before I go out, thanking him for all that he is going to give me that day. Big or small. Its still his bounty.

I've just recently moved to Tennessee near Kentucky Lake and I often find myself getting in the car in the evening and driving down to one of the boat ramps just to look out at the lake and watch the sunset. I've fished all my life but I still enjoy just being near the water even when I'm not fishing.

I was fortunate enough to become a ranger at Enid (TEMP.) I was wanting to do boat patrol and was shocked to find that it was easy to get because few if any wanted to do it . Being on the water was not like work to me . I worked there for 10 yrs . and seeing the entire lake under all weather conditions were a pure joy . I told one of the old guys that I taught school before coming to the lake most days and it was like the highlight of my day and he thought me to be crazy . Had to be at school at 7:15 am-3:15 , lake at 3:30 -12:00 pm . Loved it . The Sunsets , smell of charcoal on the water , meeting folks and talking to fishermen daily was a pure joy . Yes like most jobs the drunks , drowning's , boating accidents ect were a bummer but the good far out weighed the bad. :cheers2

When I used to fly fish I would often just stop n sit n watch rising trout. I live in the heart of pa and it's some of best trout waters in America. And it is just awesome how pretty it is along a trout stream.
The only other place that was as peaceful n tranquil to me is in the fall when you start to get the first snows of the year. Sitting on stand the woods turn dead quiet and and these huge flakes start comming down non stop n lay on everything. At No other time can a man be closer to reality n God. I feel sorry for those who don't experience it.

Rick Clunn use to go and sit at the lakes edge at night and just picture what he was going to do during the tournaments. That was when he was winning a lot of tournaments. EB

Neat Pics. I have a hard time sitting still at any time, but it's impossible when there is a fishing rod nearby and I'm near the water. To do that I have to leave my stuff home. Being a morning person I have had to wait for enough light before I could begin fishing. Hunting season was always a very happy time for me. I get to the deer woods a couple of hours before the sun and watch the woods come to life undisturbed. I've had animals walk so close. Always enjoyed the quiet time. Closer to God a man can't get.
