fish finder again

ok ive got to get me a fish finder, problem is my boat is only a 12ft flatbottom that im throwin in the back of a pickup. would this work out well for me to put one on it? it would have to come off easy so i could take it inside. just wondering what yall thought ive got to find that deep cover somehow. also if anyone has an old but pretty good theyd like to sell pm me please. also what would be a good cheap new one if i have to go that route?

i looked on ebay the piranhamax 10 & 15 are selling under $80 but or they a decent product?

You can get a "portable" kit for most graphs, which has a suction cup to hold the transducer to the boat.

It would be just as easy to mount the transducer to a piece of PVC pipe that you can hang over the side of the boat to get the transducer in the water.

You can also mount the head to a battery box, which could hold your battery for the graph. Then the whole unit could easily be taken out of the boat when not in use.

so you need a seperate battery from the trolling motor?

Not necessary but it helps. If your TM battery starts to get low the screen on your graph will get dim or it will turn off. You don't need a big battery for your graph - a motorcycle or riding lawnmower battery will do the job.

i used a fishn' buddy all summer. this machine is very portable, uses d cell batteries. the transducer is attached to the 35 inch long unit. it goes off and on to a boat in ten seconds. they now have three models- 60 to 240 dollars. the former name of the company was Bottom Line. new name now and your pc should help you find it. it contains a 2 way transducer -- one down and one any way you point it. the high end model has a lot of detail

Bama, one thing you said was wrong. Cheap and good should not be in the same sentence. More clarity and detail ='s more money. Depth finders are like anything else. The more you pay the better the product. I had a humming bird portable back several years ago with the suction cup transducer and a battery powered unit and it worked well.

if you want to mount the system on your boat ... and be able to just remove the depth finder unit, check out a Johnny Ray removable mount:




I've used these on both my previous boats, and they work great. The mount tray (top rectangular piece) swivels 360deg, and releases from the bottom section by pushing the button (gold square in pic). ....... cp

for a boat like that i would git a smart cast . i have one i use for spotting a brush pile without having to run my boat over it and running the fish out . :D
