    Default Landing net

Can someone recommend a good landing net for a boat?

Going to swing by Academy of Cabela's this Saturday.

I have a Frabill stowable 48" with rubber net. Looked for pics but it appears it is no longer available. Looked at cabellas and http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/produ...AL%3BIK-017471

the 48" length is great for us fishing out of 16' Bass boat or 18' Jon Boat. We typically use 8' rods and net each others catch. For netting your own, I would probably opt for a bit longer handle. I listened to all the arguments about the rubber net but the bulk of our catching is fall and winter using blade baits and jiggin raps so I bought the rubber net in hopes that fouled hooks would be minimal. And they are. Plus even when they foul a bit they are easily unhooked from the net. After using the net for 3 years, have landed ~1500 walleye/saugeye I am glad I have a spare as well as 2 new nets for replacement. The new nets were bought on clearance when the size was changed. The second net was bought 2 weeks and 8 trips after buying the first one. Hopefully some Yaker will chime in about length for a kayak.

I fish with a guy in a 20' lund and he has 6' nets which are great in that size boat but he keeps saying he wants an 8 foot

Depends on the circumstances, if you are fishing long poles 14 to 18 foot long and catching 2 pound fish consistently then you really need the Crappie Master net. Extends to 12 foot, almost 14 with the hoop on and is built like a tank. Down side to it is that it is a 2 man operation, not a net for someone fishing alone.

I doubt Feelay or BigH would have a problem with one.

I wanted a really long handled net for spider rigging, and I wanted a rubber net for trolling cranks. I had an older net that had a bent handle on it and a rotten net. I went to BPS and got an oversized rubber net for it for (12$) then went to lowes and got an aluminum telescopic painter's pole that goes from 6-10 feet I think, it cost less than 10$. so for less than 25$ I have universal net. worked out great!

    .

Buy a rubber net, you will never go back to cord. Hooks don't get tangled in the rubber nearly as bad.
