I built a sun shade today. I used an camp chair and removed shade frome it I bought some aluminum from lowes for brackets. All in all I have about 60 bucks in in beats the hobie for 300.

I was thinking the same thing, wind could play havoc. I would have opted for an golf umbrella holder, that way the umbrella could be put away if it did get windy. However, what you have looks nice and appears to be very sturdy.

The top comes off and fits in rear hatch easily from seat it folds up it just sits on 2 6in l brackets.

That is pretty slick then.
Heck if you fixed it where you could drop it down in front and lean back against it you could use it for a sail. Actually it looks like it might work for you.
