Thanks for the report. Time to get the crank baits out.
A quick Gravois fishing report....
Tues May 27....did not get out until 8 am....jigging around docks in various depths of water...fishing pretty slow only caught about 10 crappie....tried some crank bait trolling and not very good results....hooked into a 22 to 25 pound blue cat with a 1/16 oz crappie jig fishing for crappie close to a dock in about 25 feet of water with 6# yellow/green crappie line, got the fish to the boat after about 10 minutes, had no net so buddy removed jig with a needle nose with the fish still in the water....I was using an ultra light rod which was doubled-up catching the cat, very lucky to get the fish in ...water temp 73 to 74 degrees most areas fished.. kept no fish
Wed May 28.... got out even later about 9 am....jigging around docks again about same results as Tues...hooked into a 3 or 4 foot gar with the exact same 1/16 oz crappie jig/line/ultra light rod that the cat yesterday was caught on and 6# yellow/green crappie line, wasn't so lucky this time as the gar leaped out of the water, came toward and under the boat and kept running and snapped the line....water temp up to 75-77 degrees. Crank bait trolling was a little more successful, in 15 to 45 feet of water...kept no fish
Today, Fri May 30...got on the water at 6:30 am...decided to only troll crank baits as the water temp had warmed to 78 degrees...In 2 hours probably caught 25 crappie, 5 or 6 small white bass and a 4# drum all on cranks. I ended up keeping only 8 of the largest crappie, as the ones I kept were 11" to 13". All but one were white crappies and could not believe that only the 11" black crappie and one of the whites did not have eggs. All the others had eggs and some even appeared to be still in good shape. Two or three had very soft, liquidy and bloody eggs, the others appeared to be firm, some light yellow/white. The fish caught were in 18 to 60 feet of water as it appeared that they are moving away from the docks big time now
