Sorry for your loss Boscoe. Kind of fitting that he passes on this most special of holiday weekends. I am grateful for your Dads service to our Country. May he rest in peace.
passed on this morning, 90+. 25 years as a Navy Corpsman, 1940 to 1965. I used to hate him thinking he was the meanest SOB there ever was, but now I know what he was trying to do for me and do the same thing to every kid the boss gives me to train. Guess where ever Chiefs end up the coffee and stories are flowing.

Sorry for your loss Boscoe. I know you will miss him.
Sorry to hear this, Boscoe. My dad was also a navy Corpsman during WWII.
USS Intrepid CVS-11 Helicopter Squadron-3 1960-1964
When I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations I have a good day
Sorry to hear this Boscoe. I know You will miss him. Sounds like He was a tough knot but for good reason. It is amazing the respect You have for them when It first Dawns on You why they were doing certain things. I was 21 when I finally figured out that I did not know anything and My respect for My parents went way up. I still draw on their knowledge today every chance I get because I know that one day they won't be here anymore. Sorry for Your loss My Friend. Ed

Thanks guys. A couple of things from yesterday that really got me. Sis and I were going through a binder of his service that we had never seen. In it was a unit commendation from the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka Japan during the Korean War for what was a 500 bed hospital treating 5000 wounded in a 10 day period. We had never heard anything about that even with all the stories told over the years. You have to wonder how many things like that Vets carry to their grave without ever talking about with anyone. The other had us both rolling on the floor, in the bottom of a box was a WWII K-Bar, my sister handed it to me and asked if I wanted it. I set it on the table looked at it and said "That is not a toy and I'm not allowed to play with it EVER".
Bill- It's sad to hear about your loss. I pray that you will cherish all the memories of happy times you enjoyed with your dad. If some of those good times involved fishing, you couldn't find a better place to share them than right here.
