Congratulations! You should be proud!
Haven't been on in a while, but that doesn't mean I forgot all I learned here on CDC!
Fished a multi species, multi day tournament last Friday and Saturday. It is Bass stage on Friday, Panfish stage on Saturday - and both days walleye and pike can be weighed. At the end, you can win bass, panfish or overall (bass, panfish and walleye) weight.
I'll skip the details because it wasn't exciting fishing. Day started at 33 degrees and it had been that way for a few days, so nearly all the bass were pulled back of the shallows. We caught 3 bass (5 is a limit) and lost a monster at the boat, but came in 4th in the bass stage - we had some decent size to ours. And surprise of my life, I caught my first walleye - an 18 incher!
The next day was crappie - they had already spawned (according to the locals) and were out of the shallows as well. The first 3 places we tried were a bust, then I remembered a CDC member saying "Crappie fishing is like bass fishing, they will be in the same area's many times" and remembered seeing some on the locator when we were bass fishing in the main lake area. We used the side imaging and found a school and caught about 20 out of it. When the fishing slowed about 10:30 and full sun for the day, we tried a bridge, but couldn't find a school that was hungry. So we went back to our first spot and located the school again - they had moved 20 yards down the lake.
We managed a decent limit and manged to get second in the panfish stage - missing first by just .14 lbs!!! For a day that started off with frozen water bottles in the boat, I was very happy.
End result of the tourney was - a good catch of crappie allowed us to make up weight for the short limit of bass. The walleye though put us over the top and we won the tourney - for the SECOND year in a row!
