Bubba Crappie

Here's a pic of a crappie we caught today. The bottom lip extends a good 1/4" beyond the upper lip and the side folds are larger than normal. Quite abnormal.

Well, I guess I should call it, Bubbete, because it was a female. Bet she didn't get too many dates with that ugly face.

Looks like you may need to lighten up on setting the hook. Now the important question......so how did she taste?

it's amazing how some fish can survive serious injury from predators. i've seen'em with chunks bitten out, tails chomped on, pieces of dorsal fin gone., but never with lip damage. you have to wonder how any of them make it to adulthood.

I bet she broke somebody's line and had a hook in her lip for a long time causing it to grow abnormally.
