Default Fishing with chestwaders and snakes

Hey Crappie people, Well I never thought I'd be in the water fishing brush tops
wearing chestwaders, but that is what I'm planing to do this spring....
The snakes are bad there and I am scared of them suckers, I thought about
packing a hand gun. Any ideas?

i used to wade a bunch when i was still in high school. my buddy and i met a guy one day who had a spray bottle full of gasoline around his neck and said he'd spray it at snakes if they got too close and that it worked pretty well. i never did anything special myself. i just tried not to pay attention to them.

My experience wading, and I mostly wade in the spring, is that don't be concerned with those banded water snakes, they are harmless, if you must..a simple tap on the nose with your jig pole and they will turn the other way. Now be darn sure what a cotton mouth looks like and keep your eyes on them..if any..Don't sweat it, as long as you can see them you'll be ok, or you can shoot up the water and make people mad and ruin your fishing trip by hunting snakes....:D I have shared a many of brushtops with snakes, they will lay there sunning and pay no attention to you

If snakes scare you that bad, i'd say dont wade. You wont be able to relax and enjoy yourself and isn't that mainly why we fish. Its hard to enjoy yourself when your heads on a swivel.

Man, if that guy was a smoker that could have turned into another exciting episode of "Rescue 911!"

I 've heard that cotton mouths can't bite in the water , i don't know how much truth there is to that . I was hoping the late Steve Irwin could have done a show on that .

I know of a lady that was bit while she was swiming under water by one. I have never been wadeing but will be in the water come spring. Heck the wife says that she may give it a try too.
    Let's go fishing.
