Hello All
Roberta already posted about this but I wanted to post a site for the petition to be signed. If you would go to www.ohiogamefishing.com , then go to the Lake Erie forum. The thread starts out Please Sign Petition.
For those of you that don't know the USDA has banned the shipping of live fish across state line to any state that borders a Great Lake, including Ohio, Michigan, Indianna, Pennsyvania, New York and others. This includes Fathead minnows, Emerald Shiners and other various fish that are not bait. Such as Steelhead, even Sauger from the Ohio River for crossing with Walleye to breed Saugeye fingerlings.
The reason behind this is to prevent the spread of hemmaotic virus (spelling ) that is already in our Great Lake System and was most likely brought in by lake vessels bilges, just like zebra mussels and gobies. I am by no means a biologist just a concerned angler. This with be certain death to many mom & pop bait store as well as our live bait distributors. I do beleive you must live in one of the bordering states to vote but what the heck if people from all over vote it may get the point across.
I beg all that fish in these states to sign this petition or there will be no minnows for fishing come spring. Thanks
Tim
