just try the bucket. your not out anything if you don't like it.
Anyone ever use 5 gallon buckets like you would a drift sock? If so, were the results good?

I used one for a while, worked fine for kayak but just took up too much room for me.
I use two one on each side. Not as good as drift sock, but work more then I fish, can`t see get`en one to sit around.
they work for me...when iam in the wind that is
Plastic buckets work their best if you drill/cut a 2 to 3 inch hole in bottom center to let some water flow thru, size depends on your boat

Good ole chain..... lol
I'd think chain would have a bad habit of getting wrapped around the hundreds of trees up where I fish; not sure about your lake bottoms.
im cheep...have an older Ranger 18' use 2, 5 gal buckets with 3 2" holes drilled in the bottom...throw out one...and if it doesn't slow me down enough I throw the other works well for me...
