    Default Sharp Metal

ok fellow crappie family members, i would like to start a discussion about knives. what kind of filet knife do you use? do you like it? i have a bunch of them and have never really been happy with any of the ones i have used. right now i use a gerber filet knife that seems like it should be awesome, but it's not. previously, i have used a browning knife, a really stupid bill dance triple blade filet knife (why did i buy that?!?) along with several others. does anyone use, and really enjoy, one of the many electric knives available? i'm sick of the gerber and want to buy a new knife, but before i do that i will lean on all you folks to decide what to buy! i want to knwo what gets a and what gets a

i assume it takes a little bit of getting used to. for whatever reason i just assumed you couldn't get all the meat off the fish with the electric ones, like they didn't have the same amount of sensitivity as a fixed blade knife.

I use the same one also. Nice box it fits in when done for storage, also. I could use some new blades.

I guess im the only one that still does it the hard way with nonelectric.I use a gerber and a kershaw.
I tried the electric knives and i like to eat the crappie i catch and there weren't enough left after that to even get a good crispy outta. So i still use the ole manual knife.

Like Bugs and the others, I've gone electric. I just use a $9.98 Black & Decker electric carving knife from WalMart. It works great, it's quick and if it goes bad I just spend another $10 and buy another. Yes I lose a bit on rib meat but the meat I lose is only the crispy rib meat parts that end up frying off anyway. Electric is the only way to go....

Add me to the electric list, but with a twist.I'll fillet them in the driveway,1 cut, ribs and all.Them I'll take the fillets inside and trim the ribs and skin them manually.
Usually I take them to work and clean them there.Much easier with big sinks, right height table, plenty of knives.Hope we get a vacuum sealer on this years budget!!
