just about every jig casting rod I own, at one time or another

Once you get the mechanics and timing figured out, you can use a variety of rod lengths & strengths. But, I do have one outfit that sure is a lot of fun to shoot docks with :
Rod- Quantum 5ft Model 653N UL spinning
    Reel- Shakespeare Alpha XT1000 UL
    Line- Stren Gold 4lb test

Lite & ultra-lite rods "sling" a jig, more than "shoot" it ... but, they get the job done, most of the time. I've used 8ft BnM FnF rods, 7ft Sam Heaton, 7ft Mitchell Zero Gravity (carbon) rods, and even my Browning 6ft Med Graphite (spooled with PowerPro 10/2).

My fishing partner uses 6ft Light Action Berkley Cherrywoods ... and, if I didn't already have enough rods for my purposes, I'd consider one.
Most of my dock shooting is done on Watts Bar, and occasionally on Weiss. That's because they have stationary docks, and my local lakes either don't have docks, or have floating docks. ...... cp

Mine is a Shakespear micro ultra light rod 5 ft....
    Shakespear micro reel
    Yellow 4 lb. test line...

I've never had a problem "shooting" a dock...Once you get your rhythm down it's not hard at all...Alot of nice sized crappie stay up under the docks...And I like getting at them...:D

I have a 5 1/2ft B&M dockshooter rod with a quantum ul reel. Got the rod from Grizzly jig company. Works great for me.

i like the shakespeare microspin 4.5 ft pole with tiny UL spin reel. It's easy to toss under a dock and pretty responsive. Shootin docks is fun esp. with sliders rigged weedless. Shoot wait and retreive.
