I thought it was "low" to begin with. The email from the state with water levels said low.
Makes the bite kinda tough! They've been dumping steadily for the last couple of days. I guess they're getting ready for the spring rain. Hope they get it out of their system before the spawn.

The fishing was so good I thought it was yesterday
hey Twitch what was the water temp?
May all your live wells be full.Dave
Most of the water I found today was 48. Around 3 pm up north found 50 but did not catch a single fish today. Why they would be letting water out is just stupid. Lake is already very low. Better hope for a wet spring
found a few spots with 50 degrees also. fishing sucked and the water looked really low i hope they quit soon

I stayed around camp branch and north on the east side today. Lucked out with one 9.5 inch fish in 4 hours. I told myself I'm not leaving until I catch one. Was still fun to get out on the water again. It will only get better.

Unfortunately it was crap for us yesterday. My boy and I had six so we let them back in the lake. It is always brutal when they are dumping water there
The corps draws Smithville down to 2' low in winter, and you should thank them. This is done in cooperation with MDC to specifically aid the spawn. They are trying now to get back to that 2' low mark before the spawn starts. Doing this gives them a 4'-6' cushion before they would have to release water in the event of a big rain. A drawdown in the middle of the spawn has pretty serious effects on the survival of fry. I don't know all the data, that would have to come from one of our biologists, but I do know they are doing this to help us in the long run.
