    Default LED Lights

I have been doing some research this morning, but I have not been able to make up my mind on the LED lights. One advantage to them is the low power usage they require.

Has anyone moved over to LED, and how do you like them? Are they much brighter than other types of lights? I am also looking at UV (Black Light) in a LED bulb. Please also state how many LED lights you are using in your bundle for reference.

    Thanks.
    Joe

I have been facsinated by LED's for quite a while. I use a LED headlamp that I've had for about 2 yrs now that is still using the original AAA batteries and I use it all the time. I have also upgraded my 4 cell Maglite to LED and its excellent. Batteried last much longer and it makes as much light as the original bulb did. It has a tight defined beam and the light is very white. Be careful though that you get an original Maglite upgrade because there are cheap upgrades out there that arn't made with Luxeons. They have both the cheap ones and the Maglite ones at walmart. I wasn't sure I'd like it at first because of some of the earlier LED flashlights I've used. The difference is the new much brighter Luxeon LED's that are being used now. Avoid the older less powerful LED's that you see used in clusters in flashlights to get decent brightness. The premier LED flashlight MFG is Surefire. They make military Tactical quality lights. I have never seen better flashlights. They have an excellent website and I think BPS sells some of them. They are expensive but you'll never find a better flashlight. My headlight is a Brinkman I got at walmart for $10. Cabeles sells thier branded name of LED flashlights that look like excellent lights as well and they are cheaper than the Surefires and use Luxeons. Personally I love my 4 cell Maglite with the LED.

They are making all kinds of new stuff with LED's now. I havn't tried one but they make lanturns now with LED's that should replace kerosine lanturns. Christmas lights are now available with leds. Fish attracting lights with LED's. I hear they are experimenting with automobile headlights and are already using them for accessory and backup and running lights for cars. Something that really facinates me are LED's use in construction for homes and busnesses for both interior and exterior lighting. LED's have nearly unlimited lifspans and can be inbedded in almost anything in multi colors, and use very little power. I believe they will eventually overtake all current types of lighting for buildings.

I have been looking into LEDs as over head lights while night fishing. But have not tried them.

I have changed my trailer lights to the LEDs. They are salt water proof, rated to work for a 100,000 hours and are easy to trouble shoot. If not working, you would have a wire connection problem. After fishing all day or half the night, who wants to get pulled over by the police because the trailer lights not working. $40. to $50. dollars to me was a good investment.

I also use the LED head lamps and done a thread on them in the past. I think they are another good investment. I was lucky enought find mine at a wall mart on clearance for $9.00. Whole shelf was full of them for about a week.

You may want to try the L.E.D Cluster Lights that True Fisher has on his website www.LobyBaits.com

Here is the link to his L.E.D's

How much brighter are these things? It looks like you have to specify how many LEDs are in your light to fully compare it against any other light. Would it take 1,2,3, etc LEDs to be as bright as a regular bulb or fluoresent?

crappiemagnet.... I have seen that on the ice fishing section, "L.E.D Cluster Lights that True Fisher has on his website www.LobyBaits.com" That is what give me the ideal to look into use as over head lights while night fishing on a boat.

I don't think all LED headlamps are the same. I compared my 3 LED light to my neighbor $5.00 Harbor Freight 7 led light and mine is twice as bright. Go figure
