    Default Never caught a Crappie

I grew up in Northwestern Ontario in Canada. Where some of the best freshwater fishing in the world is but we didn't have Crappie. I'm in GA now and would love to catch a slap or two! I'm about 30 miles from Lanier and 50 miles to Hartwell. I tried Lanier for the first time last weekend and we only caught six small stripers fishing for crappie. Any suggestions welcome??? Location? Water temp? Depth? bait?

You'll start getting the hang of it. I still catch a lot of drum while crappie fishing (especially minnow rigging) but that's gonna happen. Once you get into them you'll be hooked

Once you start catching crappie, you'll want to fish for them every chance you get! Good luck!

Welcome from Alabama. The most important lure in your tackle box is your CONFIDENCE! Believe in the method you are using and slow down your presentation. Cparrie love to study the bait before inhaling it. When you think you are fishing slow then slow it down some more. I use a slip float so I can adjust to the level the fish are. Productive color combinations for me have been anything with chartreuse in it such as black/ chartreuse; aqua/chartreuse; pink/chartreuse or white/chartreuse. I would fish those plastics on a 1/32nd or 1/16th jig head. I always have some live minnows to fish on a #2 or #4 hook. It depends on the time of day, water clarity and what the fish want. hope this helps some. This is my favorite rigging that I personally have confidence in.

Before you can catch any fish, you will need to spend about $50K on boat, poles, electronics, etc. This will get you started.

    Turn back now!!!
    Before its too late!!!
Crappie fishing should be called an addiction!!

Besides confidence, like was mentioned... The key to crappie fishing is location.
Good electronics and a really good trolling motor will help with that. My two most important pieces of equipment.
If you find the crappie, generally you can catch them.
You'll find out that there are many, many different methods and techniques.

Good luck to ya! That GA workshop sounds like the perfect place to get started.
    Plus they have food... lol
