I say spinning. I use the little Quantum Optix 5.

I use both types depending on the depth of water I am fishing when dipping. The Optix 05 is a good cheap lightweight reel for the money. I also use the Crappie Maxx mini bait casters from Bass Pro. I also just picked up one of the new Wally Marshall Solo reels to give a try. It looks like a fly reel and is super light. Seems to have decent drag on it.

Agree and disagree, if your fishing deeper than your pole length your gonna have to reel a little. When dipping trees with a 10 footer and fishing less than 10 foot down then I like to use a mini
