I can tell ya what I use :

    5'6" Norsemen Outdoors Inc ESP rod ( http://esp.norsemenoutdoors.com/shop/56-ultra-lite )
    Shakespeare Alpha XT 1000 reel
6lb test Vicious Panfish hi-vis copoly line

I occasionally use my jig casting outfit for dock shooting, also :

    6'6" ESP PowerLite rod ( http://esp.norsemenoutdoors.com/shop/66-power-lite )
Shimano Spirex 1000RE (recently changed from Shimano Aero)
    6lb test Vicious Panfish

I have shot docks with shorter & longer rods than these, but these have become my primary outfits. And I'll tell ya right up front ... I did not "buy" either rod. I fieldtested for ESP, and these rods were given to me for free. But, I will say that I liked them enough to switch from my previous rods (5' Zebco & 7' Sam Heaton Signature Series). And I won the Sam Heaton SS rod, and bought the Zebco "used", so there wasn't a big monetary gain involved to sway my opinion.
