SI on the smaller screens can be tough to make out....but DI on smaller screens works pretty well.

SIDE IMAGING QUESTION/// BoBo I must apologize for wrong info I put in the first post. The 597ci, which I have I confused with the new 598ci. The 598 ci does have the SI function, as a matter of fact it is the same unit that was formerly the 798 ci si. I also bought that one being a pinch penny and the screen is small but I am a crappie and blue gill chaser it works for me.

If side imaging is important to you save your money and get at least the 997,998 or 999.

The 798 has 2 card slots, 3 preset view buttons, and is networkable (if it's the 798c HD SI Combo)...

The 598 has 1 card slot, no preset view buttons, and is not networkable ...

The screens are the same... The processor is the same...the xducer is the same...

The 598 was introduced as a entry level - lower priced SI (by leaving off the extra features mentioned above)...

The smaller SI screens can be challenging to interpret structure on the SI image ... But there are things that can be done to help...

*Reducing the SI Range will make all echoes in the SI image larger...
*Setting the SI view to 1 side only will really make things look bigger...
*And, of course...the cursor can be activated and used as a zoom box on interesting points on the SI image...
