Default Red worms at the Bait store??????

I bought red wigglers last year off line to raise. They stayed small and could hardly put them on a small hook. Are the red worms you buy in the bait store red wigglers or small European Night Crawlers

Can't say for sure, but the ones I get from Hamilton Bait and Tackle will grow if I let them. Just got to feed them. Magic Worm food is great but I use a home made mixture cormeal, oatmeal, egg shells and any leafy greens I can steal from the kitchen.

Most worms reproduce prolifically and reach maturity in 3-4 months, The European worms grow and really grow fast when conditions are right and typically are a bit larger than red wigglers.

I do not know what you were feeding them, but I use vegetable waste from the kitchen. I also use wet wheat straw and fairly draw cow manure. The red wigglers will grow quickly and fat on this type of diet. I have grown red wigglers for 6 years.

Get walmart euro night-crawlers, actually a big red worm. I started 3 $2.00 containers 10-2012. I cannot give enough away! 3-4" long. Cardboard and pumpkin guts are 80% of their diet. I freeze the pumpkin from Halloween in zip lock bags.

Here is my other thread. RetiredRR was a huge help. here is a picture from March 2013, 5 months after starting them ans feeding very little for fear of overfeeding.

Could be, that is a corn product and worms do prefer decomposing veggie matter but the also do well with newspaper and coffee grounds

I like your idea of pumpkin guts and cardboard. If you wish, I will take three dozen of them off your hand.
