Default New project, need viable inputs

Well, lack of something to do has given me time to rethink this old set aside project of mine.

Those of us who own electric steer trolling motors know what a pain it is to go backwards with the electric steer motors, especially when you hang up a line. So, to simplify immediate reverse, I am going to put my hand steer MK 12v/40 to work.

I plan to mount it on the transom ( actually on the basket). I will install a wireless foot controlled switch which will turn the AFT Troll motor on/off.

This should allow me to reverse quickly without stirring up the stuff I get hung up in. The circuitry to do this is simple and cheap. Wireless because I will be able use it on both my boats.

Any input ideas would help. Pit falls? Anyone tried this?

Speed control. Assuming you would just put it on high.

Yep. Bump it off/on. Use it like a thruster.

    I usually just make a U turn, but I don't have 8 or 10 rods out either.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Why add another TM? Would you achieve the same result if you just added a reverse polarity switch on the existing motor or would it get tangled? A momentary switch of some type that changes polarity so you don't have to spin the TM around.

It is a new Terrova. Not easy to modify. Besides, it would still stir up the brush.

Might pull your boat in half should something go wrong, hope you have a Ranger.
