Cave Run Crappie?

Got some vacation time here in November. Always wanted to go to Cave Run - but one question. How's the crappie fishing there? Size, limits, etc. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!!

haven't fished there in quite a few years, but there's some good fish to be had from there.
As far as the "laws" ........ no size limit - 30 fish/day/person - 60 fish per person possession limit

There may still be a "launch pass" fee of $3.00 ..... available at the lakeside bait stores (check with them before launching/parking).

Depending on the rains we get in that part of the state ..... lake could be rising or falling. But, given normal conditions ... fishing standing timber in the creeks, creek mouths, and main lake banks with minnows ... 20+ feet of water depth, and fishing in the 8-15ft range ... should put you in the game. Check with the baitshop people, though, as they would have more up to date info than posted fishing reports.

There's one Marina, located near the dam ..... no private docks ... relatively clear water ... standing timber is mostly in creeks & up in the river portion of the lake. .......... luck2ya ... cp

I fish the Cave on a regular basis and the crappie seem to be on the small side this year but you can still find some nice ones. Fished the Poppin Rock area a couple of weeks ago and did well in spite of catching many smaller ones. Ended up with a nice mess with the biggest around 13". Fish were scattered at 14-16 foot depth in standing timber. Caught them on minnows and black/blue 1.5" Yum beaver tails. With cooler temps I'd have to guess the crappie are schooling up for a final fall feeding frenzy. Lake is at summer pool but they are dropping it down pretty fast today (a little over 3,000 CF per second) Crappiepappy is right on about where to find them. If you fish the river or Beaver Creek area use care since submerged timber is everywhere. Beaver Creek channel is marked but Licking River area is not marked. $3.00 ramp pass is still required.
