    Default Nice surpise crappie

After crappie fishing for 50-years, I thought I'd seen it all.
I always thought 14-inch crappie were about 2.25 pounds. Two fish seemed "heavy" Saturday. So we weighed them on the UPS scale at the office. Both were over 2.75- pounds! I had one two weeks ago that was 15-inches and weighed 3.08. I usually don't excited about a crappie until it is 16-inches long. I'm throwing that theory out the window. These Alabama fish are healthy! What's the heaviest, short fish ratio have you seen?

Good point. I've seen some crappie that were long but lean. A well fatty will make you dig out the scales. A long and fat crappie is a wallhanger. Congrats, beautiful fish.

This makes me wish when I was younger I would have weighed some of those crappie I caught. I fished one area where I caught many crappie over 16 inches but never had scales to weigh them. I had a friend weigh one he caught with me last year that was 16 inches and it weighed 3.1 too bad that spot does not hold crappie anymore like it once did.
