In my opinion, as long as the motor runs good and there is no other problems with it, I'd say it would be a good buy! The only disadvantage would be the warranty on a new motor.
Looking at the motor in the link below. I have a 30 and want something bigger when on a trolling motor only lake. What would I be sacrificing getting one of the older ones with the white cover over one of the new ones?

For the money, I don't think you would be sacrificing anything. As long as that is the style you want, I'd go for it.
Great motors. Have a old 32 and a 36. Used both on a 16 alumacraft bass for years. Good on battery and that 50 would be plenty of power with good battery. Run all day unless really windy. Price is right also.

I never wore out a MinnKota. If it sounds and runs good I'd say go for it.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Ive minnkota also now ive got a 76 lb motorguide now its sumng u wont go wrong with go for it
fishing from the couch in front of the tv doesnt count
I have a 46 lb'er as the only motor on my jon boat. I use two batteries though. One battery to fish all day, and the other one to get back to the ramp if needed. Works great for me. I can fish all the way around a lake that's 2 miles long and a mile wide, and have juice left over when I get back. With wind and waves, my mileage may vary.
Where you go is less important than how you take the steps.
But don't forget the Roadrunners
Sounds good if in good working order.

I have bought refurb minnkotas from Cabelas. Good prices with 1 year factory warranty. Got a 40# 12v for $79.
