Default A Little Weiss Lake Action - 1-20-2014

I hit the water with my son Hagan and his friend Taton and had real good day on Weiss Lake. Water temps still holding around 43 to 44 degree's... Water is finally clearing up in a lot of areas on the lake and is in pretty good shape for now. We started out long line trolling and did pretty good working suspended fish holding in 8 to 10 feet of water pulling 1/24th oz jigs with Southern Pro Hot Grubs. We stopped trolling with 29 keepers, just to change it up a little we decided to make a move and break out the Fly and Cork rig and work shallow stumps just right off the river channel ledge in 4 to 6 feet of water. We were using double 1/24th oz jig heads rigged with a Southern Pro Stingers in Blue/Black - Chartreuse on top and a Blue Chartreuse Hot Grub on bottom with the cork setup around 3.5 feet deep. We worked scattered stumps on the ledges fan casting picking off 3 to 5 good keepers off each one. We finished up the day with 60 good keeper crappie with 125+ caught... Nothing better then watching that cork bust under as soon as you hit the sweet spot...!

Congrats Kelly on a great day out with the boys!! It's awesome when you can put the kids on fish and make it a fun trip for them.

Man that makes me feel good to see that. We had about the same water temp here on Wheeler. But the fish catching has been the worst I can remember. Congrats ! Those boys will no what to do with there children one day.

That stump fishing sounds like a blast & you are right nothing beats watching that cork go under.
