I'm just curious how many of y'all use an ice chest and how many use a livewell for your crappie,
    NOT including tournaments.

If I'm taking it home, ice chest. One less step...

Use the livewell first. Then if I have enough to take home they go on ice, if not I return them to the lake. Also if I get a good many I can return some to the lake as I select those for the ice. If I get an above average one for this area, 14 to 16 inches he goes back right away.

For me it depends on temp but I mostly use the livewell. During fall, winter, and spring the livewell is fine but Georgia summers require the use of a cooler. The livewell is better due to reduced clutter in the boat. I would love to have an insulated livewell so that I could just fill it with ice during the summer.

I guess I use both. I put a large bag of ice in my livewell if I plan on keeping fish. My livewell is one I built out of a large insulated cooler so I can put a double limit (40 on KY or Barkley Lakes) in it with the ice and they will keep for several hours with no fear of spoiling. I can pump and circulate water into the livewell but usually just do it a couple of times per trip to lessen the amount of slime I have to deal with when I take the fish out to clean them.

Live well, always, even to transport home. If it's hot I carry a few 1 liter coke bottles full of frozen water.

Live well all the time from the lake to the house. Throw in ice in the hot summer.

livewell all the time......then, when I get to the launch going home I pump the water out and put all remaining ice (from my big built in ice chest) in the livewell.....I like for my fish to be dead when I clean them and this does the trick........
