    Default the flu bug

Three wks back, the boy brought it home.He than gave it to the wife, who gave it to our 5 month old daughter. He or the wife never dress properly, and get it every year,EVERY YEAR.The last time I had it was in '95, and it darn near killed me.I have never had the flu shot, but probably should start thinking about it.My secret is Never let my body temp drop below 99 degrees. I wear long jons from Oct. to April.I have a collection of heavy sweatshirtsthat I also wear All winter.I wear them when everyone else is in tee shirts.I am never really comfortable. When the BUG is going through the house,I keep my hands washed, I sleep in a Parka. It keeps my CORE TEMP way up and again I don't get the BUG.(cross my fingers.)If I get a chill,or if I get a Temple headache,(1st sign), I must get home right away and get under covers, get my CORE temp up, and try to Sweat it out. This has worked for me, and I know I am not the only one who knows this. How does everyone fight the FLU?

I haven't really done it as a pre-emptive strike like you do,
but after I've already gotten some bugs, getting in bed and piling the
blankets on and sweating it out does seem to work wonders.

But I am cold-natured, so I usually have more clothes on than
    most other folks anyway.:p

Oh, did I tell ya about the time I got SARS in a box for Christmas???
Unwrapped and assembled a little miniature bicycle (wrapped in sealed plastic bag in China) for one of the kids one Christmas, and got the crud immediately, thought I was gonna die for two weeks!:D

Grandpa used to swear by drinking Rock n Rye. Said to take a couple of swigs, then get under the covers and "sweat it out".
I gave it to my husband once... he forgot he had the flu after all I gave him.

As soon as the first signs of ANY cold comes on I take a dose of Niquil (sp) and this seems to work for me. Trick is to do it as soon as you have the signs, if you wait a day it is too late.

You are sure right about washing your hands. My understanding of what the professionals say is that getting a chill doesn't cause one to get the cold or flu. I tend to think that getting a chill might kind of zap ones immune system a little bit thus making one more susceptible to the virus.

The pros say that it is contact with the virus that one get the flu or cold from so washing ones hands frequently and keep you fingers out of your eyes, nose or mouth should lessen ones chances of getting ill.

For me I try to avoid crowds as much as possible and and confident that being on the lake and handling slimey crappie I shouldn't be exposing myself to any cold or flu bugs.

I'm a firm believer that once one gets the cold or flu that by taking care of oneself it will only take a couple weeks to get rid of a cold and if you don't take care of yourself it will take 14 days to get rid of it. For a bad case of the flu just add more time to both treatment methods.

Just my rambling thoughts on the subject.

its Thursday, and i finally am gettin a sore throat.Jet4 said he gets a flu shot.I would to, but this time of the year,(when the flu bug starts)the elderly get the first jabs at the shots. For the last 4-5 years, shots become common and available in late January or Feb. for people under 50 in my area. Time for a jug o rock and rye!!!
