You are sure right about washing your hands. My understanding of what the professionals say is that getting a chill doesn't cause one to get the cold or flu. I tend to think that getting a chill might kind of zap ones immune system a little bit thus making one more susceptible to the virus.
The pros say that it is contact with the virus that one get the flu or cold from so washing ones hands frequently and keep you fingers out of your eyes, nose or mouth should lessen ones chances of getting ill.
For me I try to avoid crowds as much as possible and and confident that being on the lake and handling slimey crappie I shouldn't be exposing myself to any cold or flu bugs.
I'm a firm believer that once one gets the cold or flu that by taking care of oneself it will only take a couple weeks to get rid of a cold and if you don't take care of yourself it will take 14 days to get rid of it. For a bad case of the flu just add more time to both treatment methods.
Just my rambling thoughts on the subject.
