Question Need Help...Quick How-To Powder Paint For Me.

Bobo sent me and the boys some powderpaint to try out. Its rainy and nasty out today and thought since I was off we would try to dip some.

I have read about an alcohol burner. Do not have one and trying to "home remedy" this today. lol

Have a heat gun at the shop I could go get. Also have a really small propane torch I use to soldering on semi trailer wiring harnesses. I can adjust the flame on it. Also read where you can use a candle.

    questions...

-How hot do you get the preheat??
-How long do you have before you bake them? Meaning can we dip say 10 then bake them all at the same time? Thought we would use a cookie sheet with a rack in the big oven today. No toaster oven yet.
    -15mins at 350 degrees ok??
-How long to hold the head in the powder before pulling it back out?
-Are they good to go after cooling from baking? Or do they need to set for a time?

Thanks to bobo for getting us some to try and giving us some information. Just wanting to do this today with the boys, and not leave the house to go get anything. If a candle will work for preheat that would be easiest. I bet that mini torch turned down would work well.

Thanks for your input. Trying to have it all in my head before starting with the boys. Trial and Error not fun with 10 and 13 year olds. lol.

"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 25:15

I used a pan to put heads on and placed in oven. Baked 10 min and worked good. If u snot have an alcohol burner take a roll of toilet paper and pour alcohol on it, place in coke can and it will work. That's the poor mans burner. I heat one up, dip, and place on tin pan using forceps. Important to clean the eye before you bake them.

That small torch is probably the easiest way to go. Heat for a 3-4 second count and swish thru powder, then lift out. I dont leave it in the powder, just a quick trip thru. When hot enough you will know, you will actually see the powder melt onto and coat the head perfectly. A lot if guys use a heat gun also.

I started with a Bic lighter. If its too cold when you dip it, it wii come out looking dry. That's ok, just heat it Til it shines, I always clean the eye while it still hot but cooling

I hold the eye with hemostats and heat the jig head... Used to use the lighter but had problems with darkening of paint and haven't had that issue since I started using the heat gun

I did too, then I thought how cool I would look with a smoked effect on a white head. But it rubs off. So, I ordered an alky burner from Barlows. Paid like 15 bucks for it. Plus, sine I was there, I bought some tying material too!

I use tourch and adjust flame and it works perfect. Hold hook with fingers, heat just little bit on both sides, swish in powder paint and hang on rack........takes little practice but you will get there.......good luck.

Heat gun on low since it's already available. Hemostats on the eye. Hang in oven over cookie sheet.

Didn't think of the Hempstead on eye. That's a good tip. I also have used torch but pricey on the fuel if doing a lot.
