Go to Crappie set up through the ice

I posted this over at iceshanty.com, I thought I would put it up here too.

If you had to pick one lure/bait for early ice crappie what would you go with? I bought a house on a lake last year and didn’t really get a whole lot of time last year to get on the fish. I caught a few here and there and got some walleye in front of the house off tip ups but I’d really like to get into the crappie this year. I caught some good ones this past summer but again, I wasn’t able to put the time into it I was hoping to. I’m planning on going out Saturday and poking a bunch of holes in hopes of finding them, I don’t have a flasher yet. I know where there are some fish cribs that I located this summer and I’m gonna start there but I’d like to know that I’m putting a good lure or bait in front of them. So if you could only take one lure and/or live bait with you what would it be? Thanks guys!!!!
