Oh and I have 10 ft rods at this time. Thanks!
Hello y'all ! I think i understand why you need 14 ft pus rods rigging shallow water, but what if I'm fishin 2o ft up to 40 ft? What would be the benefit of long rods fishing deep ? Appreciate the advice in advance!
Length helps keep it away from the trolling motor, not just for going fast but also for quicker turns.
If that's what you have and can't afford more, just use them. You will catch fish with them fishing deeper water. Just set your spread away from trolling motor and watch when making tight turns.

You have a wider spread with longer poles, covering more area.

What Feelay said. Also I like the way 14ft feel, 16ft is too much for me.

txtider,
If you are fishing in Texas the 10' rods are plenty long enough for our murky water. Especially fishing 20-40' deep.
Beyond that more spread can be beneficial when covering water unless you are targeting specific structure then the 10' rods might have the advantage of keeping baits in the strike zone.
I have used 10, 12 and 14 and they all work well. The only time you should be concerned with the 10' vs the longer rods is if you are being out fished in shallow water. Then the longer rods might make a difference.

Longer rods also keep your baits more seperated - less tangles
makes it easier to get snagged 14 feet away.
