What if you were to use a bow release when shooting docks instead of holding the jig itself? I dont have alot of experience with it but got to thinking about it. What do you guys think?

Personally, I think it would get in the way and/or decrease the number of your "shots". If you always remember to hold the jig by the head, with the hook facing away from your hand, you shouldn't have any problems/mishaps.
Though, I will have to admit that I've never used a bow release, nor do I have a lot of experience with archery equipment. I'm just visualizing.

I think the style of bowstring release that has the little metal finger holding the string would work in the bend of the hook...

I also think timing the release of the fishing line with the "Off" hand is most critical part of dock shooting ...and a bowstring release would not help with this...

I can "dock shoot" with a regular cast and a good reel with some good (NanoFil) line.

No reason for me to use my rod as a bow?

I'd like the chance to change your mind. I grew up pitchin boathouses underhanded with 5;2" baitcasters with lightweight worms. The accuracy I can achieve with a shooting technique allows me to hit a smaller target (opening) and skip it further under our floating docks than any other way I have tried. The right body also helps a lot.

I totally agree with Skeetbum! The good docks around here may only be a few inches off the water and your could be 20 feet back. Also get such a light landing off the skip.
