Are you sure they were crappie? I'm fishing in 59* water and the fish are schooled up over/in the creek channels 20-26ft deep.I'm keeping my jigs around 12ft.
Crappie newbie here.
Water was 51* at surface today. Suspended crappie all over the place. Mainly about 10' down over 10-25' depths. Not really relating to trees or main channel.
I tried a drop shot and ball jig with 2" flukes, swims, and grubs. Tried a Roadrunner and Beetlespin too. Got a couple on a small Kastmaster spoon. Tried vertical, casting, and slow trolling.
Using artificials what would have been a better choice, or were they just not biting?
Thanks...Bill

I caught a couple on the spoon and missed a couple strikes. Even if they were Sunnies, I would think that they would bite the same baitsand presentation?

I would have tried Vertical jigging just off the bottom where I am seeing the fish. Crappie this time of year actively feed just off the bottom as they move into winter patterns or try spider rigging at the depth where you are seeing the fish on your radar. If that don't work just say to your self "AHHH Heck They were probly white bass and move on".

I'd have used some crappie nibbles on my jigs before i gave up and moved on. Altho some guys dont care for them, they work wonders for me. I dont leave home without them.
