From a lake in Virginia?
Caught this 10 incher today on a suspending squarebill crank. Hit while bait was suspended a couple secs in about 6' water.
Bad pic but the scales were large and down the entire sides. Totally silver. Pretty large mouth.
Looks like a grass carp or maybe herring? Would either be predatory fish? The lake has carp, but not grass I dont think.
Thanks....Bill

Looks like I found it. I heard of them but didnt realize it was a predatory fish.
Creek Chub
Pretttttttty sure that creek chub isn't going 10"?
It was 10" but I now believe it is whats called a Fallfish which apparently get much larger.

Chub was what I first thought, as well. But, if you were fishing the James River Drainage area, then it's likely a Fallfish, as that's their southernmost distribution area.

me to on the chub

I use creek chubs for smallmouth bait and they don't look like what you caught but they do get 10"
It does look close to a creek chub to me but not a perfect match. We catch them for pike bait all the time in Iowa. I like them to be at least 10" to 12" and up for large pike. Ours look more like the pic MonteSS posted..
