What wraps are you talking about? A pic would be nice.
Has anyone had luck with this tach.. Mine is I think off quite a bit. Does the wraps have to be tight or will it operate with them loose...??? Can I put some sort of clamp on to the wire to keep it tight. I'm idleing at 1300 rpm's book says 950??

I have no experience with it but seems to be powered by the magnetic impulse given off by the electrical charge of the high voltage through the plug wire, then the tighter the better. You should be able to use electrical tape or a couple of tie wraps to keep it in place.

Yes they need to be snug and try varying the number of turns.

Also are you checking the idle properly. The idle speed books give are with the motor in the water and in gear. What motor do you have?

9.8a3 tohatsu , and yes in the water on my boat manual says 950 rpm's 6250 max?? I was up too 6000 wide open and just had to back off a tiny bit to the feel i like
I read an article that stated the Tohatsu 4 strokes fired twice in the four stroke revolution. One on the ignition stroke and once on the exhaust stroke. I cant' remember where I read this, but, I would certainly check it out. I don't know the settings on the tiny tach.

That is true Tom. Most 4 cycles with 2 or more cylinders now work that way. 1 spark per revolution. It is called a waste spark. The standard TT2A Tiny Tach comes from the factory set for 1 spark per revolution.

I am not sure about the Merc 4 stroke. I sure had an awakening about tachs with this 30 hp Merc. I had to trial and error a special filter to get the tach to read properly. I never got a straight answer from the tach manuf, but I did get a "filter guessing kit" from them.
