I just made a batch today. Its a homemade recipe that I have developed over the years. No kit, but still fairly easy and delicious.
    2lbs ground venison or beef
    1 medium onion chopped
    6oz can of tomato paste
28 oz can of diced tomatoes
2-15oz cans of dark red kidney beans
    1/4 tsp of salt
    1 tblsp paprika
    4 tblsp chili powder
    2 cloves of minced garlic
For heat, add 8-12 chopped jalapenos and 1 tsp of ground cayenne pepper( very hot)

Brown meat with onions, then add remaining ingredients. Mix well and simmer for two hours.

Been making it forever so I don't follow a recipe for chili. I can tell you 3 things I always use in mine though. Ranch beans, a can of beer and lots of cumin.

Sounds like mine, minus the kidney beans. I use pinto beans. I use salsa instead of cayenne pepper. Scrumptious.

I made a double batch today & it really hit the spot. I use the 2-Alarm kit & just omit the cyan pepper. It's suitable for the wife & the grand kids that way. I'll usually use half ground beef & half deer meat but my deer hunting buddies haven't showed up to swap crappie filets for deer chili & sausage yet so this batch is all beef.

I would be interested in hearing which is the best kit or chili recipe as well. I'm not a big fan of 2 alarm chili mix. Seems like they changed the ingredients several years back & messed it up.

I always make a thick soup during the winter.
    2lbs ground meat
1 large onion (I prefer red onions)
    2-3 cans Ranch style beans
    3-4 cans Minestrone
2 cans Rotel or similar (I always use whatever's on sale.)
1 can whole kernel corn - drained

Brown the meat & onion, then drain.
Dump all the ingredients into a Crock Pot
If the Crock Pots not full, dump some more stuff in it.
Cook on low heat for 4 hours. Stir every hour or so.
No need to add any seasonings.

I'll occasionally add some more shell or bow tie noodles that i've partially cooked.
Sometimes add a can of cut okra & tomatoes.
Whatever's in the pantry & sounds good with the base ingredients.

Btw, it's even better after it's sat in the fridge overnight.

That sittin in the fridge over night to taste better goes for anything. Gives the spices time to do there thing....

Once you cook the onions and meat, add the spices to the meat and onions. Cooking the spices infuses the spice and brings them back to life into the meat and onions. I use kidney beans, pintos and black beans. You can save some money buying dried beans and cooking them ahead, rather than opening all those cans.
