Default Crappie on the fly. How?

I'm embarrassed to post this for two reasons. One I am a native Floridian, and two I once won a whole bunch of tackle as the third runner up in the Okeechobee Speckled Perch festival's fishing contest. Of course I was six at the time and caught the fish trolling a beetle spin with my granddad. But still, I'm blowing all my street cred by posting this. ROFL.:-)
Since then, I have focused mostly on the salt and fishing in the fresh was a fly rod deal and I chased bass and gills. I just forgot about crappie.

No more. How do I land one of these beasts on the fly? Or should I just stick to ultralight spinning gear?

    Check this out:

    Fly Fishing

FAOL (fly anglers online) also has a "warmwater" board with regular tips from crappie fishermen.

I think you can do well in shallow water with any type of small streamer (clousers and woolly buggers), but I'll take a jig for deeper water.

Also I just tied some crappie Candy flies for a guy, tie up some of them and give them a shot. I just posted them PM the Jog board so you can take a look.

Those looked really nice. Sort of like a clouser with a maribou tail? What did you use for the body?

The fly is tied with FL Wool for the body, but you tie in the flash before and leave it at the rear until you tie in the wool. Then you pull the flash back in front of the eyes and trap, bend back and tie it down behind the eyes. Last is the Bucktail.

Not near as heavy as a Clouser. These are on 1 #6 hook, but most I tie are an #8 or a #10.

Here's you some fly rod Specks! All caught on a 3wt TFO fly rod on the St Johns River just south of Lake Monroe here in Florida. Crazy Charlies, Chartreus Wooly Buggers and the previously mentioned Crappie Candy are my go flies for Speck. They also work well for Shad when their in the river.
