Great idea. I always check new rods for hook keepers before I buy. I wonder how difficult it would be to add one using the same material used to fix/replace rod eyes?

Spoon...are you an inventor?? lol. Great job again! Never thought about adding those...will be now!
Cmj...I bet that would work well. I have a few that do not have holders and they drive me crazy...I hate using eyes to hold the hook. You could even add the smallest rod eye you can find and place it offset near your reel and use it.
"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 25:15
It's never a good idea to put a hook through the guide eye, as you're taking the chance of scratching the interior of the guide ... which can lead to nicks & cuts on your line, as it goes through that guide.
On rods that do not have hook retainers attached, I use the "foot" or supports of the guides ... never the ring !! I also never use the cork or foam of the handle to embed a hook. I'll either put the hook into the opening of the foot cover of a fixed reel seat, or use the foot of one of the guides.

Adding one would be as simple as adding a fly rod snake guide with a split ring on it. The split ring isn't necessary but I like them better. Winding isn't hard, just something else you need to eventually learn. Epoxy gives a good, durable coating when done.

give these a try they work great !!!!they are called screw hole tie wraps!!!

I was going to suggest a better alternative to tape using electric wire strap ties, but you beat me to it.
I'm wondering if the loop might be too large and the strap ride up the pole out of position. Been there, done that.

I'll try them and if the tie rides up, I'll Duck tape it. Always nice to compare ideas.
Thanks for the suggestion.
