Locating Fish in a New Lake/Location

Hi Carl, thanks for contributing to our education tonight! How do you go about locating fish in an area/lake you've never fished? And once you start picking up a few fish, is there anything you do to try and refine the pattern?

Good electronics help. Also, nothing is better than information from locals. This is a secret of most of the better tournament fishermen, make friends with the locals and ask questions. When I find fish, I try to figure why they are where they are and look for other locations that are similar.
