Side image on trolling motor

Would like feed back about using Side Image on trolling motor?

It's not the best place for that kind of sonar. Every time you turn at all it skews the view so as far as I know it's not recommended.

I will address this question to Cane Pole since he posted the picture of the boat with both the trolling motor and the fish finder mounted separately on the bow of the boat, but anyone with experience please chime in with your viewpoint. Do you experience any problems with the trolling motor blocking the side scan or interfering with the fish finder in any way? It appears that they both extend about the same distance from the boat before entering the water. Thanks

I have mine mounted on the trolling motor and absolutey love it. Use split screen to veiw and you have to understand what you are looking at in the screen. Does not show clear unless you are moving but you can turn your motor and get a 360 degree view of what is around you, drop offs, structure, schools of bait, etc.

i have one mounted on the t motor but have found i don't use it that much, i use 2d and the gps map split screen more than anything, i like it at the console for finding things though.
the di is nice to be able to discern a rocky bottom or sticks on the bottom vs seeing stuff on the bottom with 2d and not knowing what it is. but fish on the di appear very tiny, you just gotta get used to what they look like vs 2d. i like being able to switch between all three to get a good feel for what is down there, but i can't say that the si or even di has really put alot more fish in the boat for me.

I ran a Hbird 798si on my trolling motor and a 1197si at the helm. I gotta be honest with you and tell you that the 798 was pretty much a waste of money for many of the reasons done stated. First, every time your t-motor turns, it changes your view. Second, the Hbird si's need to be moving around 3mph or better for the best view. Third, when I'm on the trolling motor, I've usually already marked a spot I want to fish. I want my t-motor unit looking straight down.

Save the money you would have spent on a SI and get you a top of the line down imaging. Spend the rest on more tackle!
